Exiles to Combine With LA Galaxy South Bay
LA Galaxy South Bay announced today that Exiles Soccer Club teams and coaching staff will join LA Galaxy South Bay for the new year starting in March 2014. The involvement of Exiles SC’s teams, coaches and management resources, along with the support of the LA Galaxy, will help us reach the club's long term goal of becoming the best youth soccer club in America.
The new LA Galaxy South Bay will be both good and deep: in many age groups it will have some of the best teams in Southern California, and – fielding approximately 80 teams from U-7 to U-18 – it will be the largest club in coastal LA county and one of the largest in Southern California.
LA Galaxy Academy Director Peter Vagenas commented that "LA Galaxy South Bay, now more than ever, will be front stage in the realm of club soccer." The MLS club's reach within the youth soccer community provides the combined club with unique opportunities to develop players of both genders at all ages, and provides members with exclusive access to the resources of a world class professional soccer organization. LA Galaxy South Bay’s curriculum is integrated with LA Galaxy Academy’s player development structure, helping boys who aim to make the LA Galaxy Academy’s US Soccer Development Academy teams. The Galaxy network and strong combined LAGSB / Exiles girls teams are expected to provide additional major opportunities for the girls program as well. No other club in Southern California has these advantages.
Directors of Coaching and others on the staffs of both clubs have already spent several months planning for the coming year, including working to ensure that the tryout and team selection process is a smooth transition for both organizations. Michael Quigley will be the Interim Director of Coaching and Boys Director, while Exiles' Sal Diaz will assume the Girls Director role.
The club will have a town hall meeting on Wednesday, January 22 at the Torrance Marriott to showcase the new club structure and programs and to answer questions from members. The same information will be presented at two sessions tentatively scheduled for 6:30 and 8:30 pm. UPDATE: here is a summary of the meeting.
